Wednesday is now my favourite day of the week.
I have been a member at Yeovilton since June 2014 after a relocation from Bedfordshire so we could be closer to my husband's new navy base at Plymouth. He lives away 5 days a week and comes home at the weekend (some might say a perfect arrangement ;0)!). With my husband away during the week, I felt I needed an interest outside of the normal day to day stuff....
I initially contacted the choir after hearing that the founder of the military wives choir foundation was receiving an honour from the Queen- it started me thinking- I wonder if there is a choir based at Yeovilton? And there was! I started my email with 'room for one more?' A swift answer came back with 'yeah of course! We practice every Wednesday at 7pm at Tall Trees community centre- come along!'.
I went and I've never looked back. By far and away the best thing I have ever done. I joined that very first evening. The ladies made me feel at ease straight away and for once it was lovely to be in a room where people understood the forces way of life- the separation and the loneliness that eventually leads to steely determination and independence.
But what else do I get from the choir? I get support, friendships, inner confidence, and at gigs we get to dress up in pretty frocks and douse ourselves in sparkle. What more can a girl want? Except wine- and there happens to be plenty of that too ;o)
In a nutshell I love it! I'm so proud to stand side by side with this amazing bunch of ladies. Choir makes my working week bearable and our musical director inspires me to push myself to the next level each week. The future of Yeovilton Military Wives choir is bright and I'm so looking forward to the journey!
