Yeovilton Military Wives Choir In Concert

Published: January, 2016

The choir was thrilled and delighted to perform their first solo high profile concert to a sell-out audience at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil.

As well as family and friends, followers and fans of the choir, there were a few VIP's also including the Lord Mayor of Yeovil, Mike Lock. The concert began with a recital of the poem "Making a Military Wife" which led nicely into the first song of the evening, "One Voice".

The choir performed all of the much loved and well known Military Wives Choirs songs including the Vera Lynn medley, Wherever You Are and Fix You. They also performed some popular songs as well as classical ones, including a haunting version of Eternal Father that they first performed with the Royal Marines Association Concert Band in 2015, which was met with thunderous applause and cheering.

Alongside these songs where five solo and group performances performed by members of the choir.

Saara performed an uplifting Ella Fitzgerald song "They All Laughed".

Sarah, Kira, Sara, Gill and Fiona performed the Military Wives Choirs drumming song "Do You Hear My Voice".

Debra, Gemma and Saara performed the popular war time classic "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy".

Lizzie and Yvonne performed the Dixie Chicks Country and Western version of Travelin' Soldier.

The final solo performance was performed by our accompanist Ann who played a beautiful version of "Nessun Dorma" on her violin accompanied by the choir.

To close the concert, the choir sang the song that describes the Military Wives Choir ethos perfectly, "Stronger Together" but in true concert fashion, they were encouraged to perform an encore which they happily did, repeating the "Tipperary Medley".
